Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most often. Don't see yours? Just ask.

Both are great — they serve different needs. Sonos is plug-and-play, easy to add a room at a time, and ideal for retrofits. Casatunes is a server-based system that runs from a central rack with hardwired speakers — better for new construction, larger homes (8+ zones), and when you want a single integrated rack. We are certified on both and will recommend based on your home, the number of zones, and how it integrates with the rest of your tech.

A starter system covering 3–4 rooms (kitchen, primary bedroom, living room, patio) runs $4,000 to $8,000 installed. A full-home system with 8–10 zones and hidden speakers typically runs $12,000 to $25,000. Luxury homes with 15+ zones, outdoor audio, and architectural speakers can range from $30,000 to $80,000+. The biggest cost driver is the number of zones, not the speakers themselves.

Both work. Sonos is wireless and only needs power — easy retrofit. Hardwired in-ceiling speakers can be retrofit by fishing wire through ceilings and walls (more work in finished spaces, but very doable). New construction is the easiest because we prewire during framing. We do retrofits, additions, and remodels all the time.

A high-quality in-ceiling speaker (Martin Logan, Sonance, B&W) sounds excellent and disappears visually — most clients prefer them for living rooms, kitchens, and bedrooms. For dedicated music rooms or audiophile listening, freestanding bookshelf or tower speakers still have an edge. We pick what fits the room and your priorities.

Outdoor audio uses weatherproof speakers — wall-mount, in-ceiling for covered patios, or rock-shaped landscape speakers buried in flower beds. They run on the same multi-zone system as your indoor audio, so the patio is just another zone in your app. Add a buried subwoofer and the bass coverage rivals any indoor system.

Yes — that is a core feature. Kitchen plays jazz, kids' playroom plays kids songs, primary bedroom plays podcasts, all simultaneously. Or group rooms together and play the same song everywhere. The app makes it as flexible as you want.

Sonos has built-in amplification — Sonos Amp or Sonos Connect drives a pair of in-ceiling speakers per zone. Casatunes uses centralized rack-mounted amps — cleaner and more powerful, but requires a dedicated equipment rack. We design the right approach for your home.

Yes. The audio system can act as your living room TV soundbar (with a Sonos Arc or in-wall LCR speakers), replacing a separate soundbar. It also integrates with home automation systems (RTI, Control4) so your "Movie" scene starts the projector, dims the lights, and plays through your home audio.

Sonos has Alexa and Google built in — just speak to your speakers. Casatunes integrates with Alexa, Google, and Siri via the smart home app. "Hey Google, play 90s rock in the kitchen" works exactly how you would expect.

A starter system (3–4 rooms, retrofit) is a 1–2 day install. A whole-home system in an existing home with new wiring runs 3–7 days. New construction is prewired in a single day during framing, then equipment installation and tuning take 2–3 days near the end of the build.
